Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz on how Democrats fight President Trump

Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz launched his 2026 reelection campaign on Tuesday, September 16th.
Walz has announced his re-elect bid in a video posted to social media where he and his dog ride along the Minnesota countryside.
Minnesota’s current governor 61 said times of uncertainty could bring people together, citing previous achievements that require collaboration, such as child tax credits and paid family leave policies.
“But that’s in these moments we have to go together,” Waltz said. “We can’t lose hope because we see what we can do when we work together.”
First elected in 2018, Walz said he wanted to cut middle class taxes while investing in public schools, fighting fraud, ending gun violence and protecting individual rights “no matter what you look like and who you love.”
Waltz also raised the recent Minnesota shooting. He said he was saddened by “beautiful people who were succumbed to gun violence.” Minnesota recently lost two children to suspected target attacks in Minneapolis and state legislator Melissa Hortman.
DFLER also highlighted recent bipartisan collaborations on the Minnesota budget, with spending down $6 billion. It was smaller than the previous two years’ budget.
“I’m not finished yet, so I’m running for reelection,” Waltz said. “We want Minnesota to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to succeed in every corner of the state.”
According to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office, Waltz, who ran for vice president in the 2024 presidential campaign, won the governor’s first re-election bid in 2022 with nearly 52.3% of the vote. Republican candidate Scott Jensen in 2022 won 44.6% of the vote.
If elected, Walz will serve for a third term as governor. He will become the governor of Minnesota, serving three consecutive terms in the office for four years. Waltz worked at the US home for sixth division before becoming governor.
In February, Gov. Peggy Flanagan launched her campaign to replace U.S. Sen. Tina Smith D-Minn.
Several Republican candidates have launched a governor’s campaign, including former St. Cloud City Council member Jeff Johnson. Other Republican hopes include Kendall Quall and Scott Jensen.
