Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed at a Utah Valley University event. Donald Trump and Joe Biden responded to the news.
OREM, Utah — The panic and fear that broke out after Charlie Kirk was shot at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University has been shocked and saddened as campus students began to handle the attack.
Hours after the September 10th shooting and campus lockdown, police carrying police patrol the university, blocking the community, leaving a huge bouquet of flowers placed near the famous university sign.
“It’s very shocking because it’s not the real thing,” junior Lancessoust from the university told USA Today. “This doesn’t happen in Utah.”
Soust said he saw a panicked crowd running near where Kirk was talking when the shooting happened.
Sophomore Tyler Knudsen, who went to the event with Perez, recalled “hysteria” when people realized that Kirk had been shot.
“No one should die of something like this,” Knudsen told USA Today, adding that he would like to hear Kirk speak, despite not agreeing with the Conservatives. “It’s a tragedy, whether you support it or not.”
Knudsen and Perez said they were surprised that Kirk’s event had no more security given the controversial speaker and crowd size. They said they had purchased tickets for the event, but when they arrived there were no ticket takers or metal detectors.
Soust said the shooting was terrible, but he wasn’t worried that the shooters were still large and planned to spend the rest of the day in the dorms.
As the day approached the end, police vehicles continued to regulate traffic, lining up curbs lined up with other police agencies’ vehicles from areas on campus.
