Social Security is just 90 years old, and it is a key programme, lifting around 22 million people above the poverty line according to budget and policy priorities. A spectacular 56% of respondents to the 2025 National Retirement Institutions Social Security Survey said they would not survive financially if they missed half of their Social Security payments.

So, what exactly are these benefits? Now, the overall average monthly social security benefits for retirees was $2,007 as of July, about $24,000 a year. Below are the average monthly Social Security benefits for people of 65 or other ages as of the end of last year.

However, all of these are average. To understand more clearly how much you I may receive it, but I will set up my Social Security account with the Social Security Agency (SSA).

But all of these numbers may be a bit off. Because while social security programs have been working well for decades, they face some challenges over the next few years. If nothing is done to strengthen social security within a decade (and there are multiple ways to do so), it is estimated that beneficiaries will be reduced by up to 23% in profits.

Worse, the Trump administration’s big, beautiful bill is set to accelerate the depletion of social security funds.

So, you rely on earning Social Security income when you retire, but don’t assume there are plenty of them. Instead, set up other revenue streams and plan on floating.
