Travis Kelse ended up catching the heat from catching football.

The Kansas City Chiefs star tight end lost to Brazil’s Los Angeles Chargers and took a trip that the team would forget when they opened their season. However, dropping the game wasn’t the only loss.

For the second time in many seasons, the Chiefs recipient was a friendly fire victim. After a hit from Patrick Mahomes in 2024, after a season-ending knee injury from Rassie Rice, Xavier was worthy of a hit from Kelse this time.

He addressed the situation with the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast. Kelse, who said travelling to Brazil was a cool experience outside of the game, was completely accountable for the mistakes.

“I wasn’t ready for that first drive, I met one of my peers and kicked him out of the game,” Kelse said of clashing with values. “I literally took one of the players out. That’s one of the most frustrating parts. It’s hard to get the juice back knowing you’re going to hurt a guy.”

The tight end elaborated on what went wrong in the play.

“I’m supposed to run the route at depth because of its value,” Kelse said. “That’s annoying for me, I was trying to set my guy up and get him in position.

“I just have to get better,” Kelse added. “I’ve been in the league for 13 years, and I have no excuse to come across those kinds of people.

Worthy was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder in the aftermath of his first week loss and there is no clear timetable for the return.

Coach Andy Reed said the recipients are routine and indicate that they are avoiding surgery for now. Kelse said he doesn’t know how quickly he’ll come back, adding that he is one of the best players on the team.

“I don’t know exactly where he is in his health, but I hope he gets him back as soon as possible because it means so much for this team,” Kelse said.

Worthy’s exit left more than an emotional impact on the team. It also made the Chargers’ defense easier.

“I came across him, and all of a sudden, one of the biggest games plans is out of the game,” Kelse said. “One of the fastest guys in the league – and speed is killed in this league – and now they don’t have to worry about it.”

Kelse noted that he struggled with the rest of the first half after the injury occurred.

“I owe my man a big time,” Kelse said. “X knows that. I felt like (exped). I barely could even play the rest of that first half, but once he realized that he was a better spirit than I had imagined at halftime, we prepared it.”

Worthy’s injuries leave the Chiefs receiver room in a tough spot, especially as they deal with Rice’s suspension in five more games.

Things won’t be easy as past residences remain nothing different and the Chiefs welcome the Philadelphia Eagles into town in their second week of Super Bowl rematch.

Kelse and his crew have to move forward, but perhaps this time they are a little more aware of their surroundings.
