Warsaw, Poland – Poland said it had scrambled its own air prevention to shoot down drones on September 10, the first in the Ukrainian War, when Warsaw was involved in assets in the airspace, after an air attack in western Ukraine in western Ukraine.

Polish military headquarters said Polish airspace was repeatedly violated by “drone-type objects” during Russian attacks across the Ukrainian border.

“An operation is currently underway aimed at identifying and neutralizing these objects… a weapon is being used and service personnel are taking action to find the fallen object,” the statement said.

The military operation is ongoing, urging people to stay home and named the area of Podrasky, Mazowiekki and Lublin as at most risk.

“The Polish Army’s operational orders are monitoring the situation and the forces and troops remain fully prepared for immediate response,” he added.

According to the US Federal Aviation Administration, Poland has also closed four airports, including Warsaw’s Main Chopin airport. There was no official confirmation from the Polish authorities. The airport was closed.

Rzeszow-Jasionka airport, southeast of Poland, was one of the airports that was temporarily closed, as it was a hub for passengers and weapons travelling to Ukraine, the FAA said.

The Russian Ministry of Defense did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio had been described as reporting on Russian drones over Poland, CNN reporter Kitlan Collins said on September 9. The State Department immediately did not respond to a request for comment.

Previously, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian drones had entered NATO members’ Polish airspace and pose a threat to the city of Zamosque, but later deleted the statement from the Telegram messaging app.

In the US, Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin said repeated violations of NATO airspace by Russian drones were indications that “Vladimir Putin is testing his resolve to protect Poland and the Baltic countries.”

“After the massacre Putin continues to visit Ukraine, these invasions cannot be ignored,” he said in X.

Poland is on high alert for objects entering the airspace as Ukrainian missiles struck a village in southern Poland in 2022, killing two people a few months later in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, there were no reports of polish or alliance defense systems that destroy drones.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, as of 2:45am, all Ukraine, including the western regions of Volin and Lviv, which crossed Poland and border, had been receiving air raid alerts for several hours.
