Welcome to this week!🙋🏼♀️I’m Nicole Forelt. Is it too early to think about “falling”?
Take a quick look at Monday’s news:
Trump threatens the military in Chicago
It is not clear where the army is heading next. President Donald Trump recently proposed that he could send to Chicago and New Orleans. The governor has traditionally decided when to deploy non-riot forces, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker opposed the Chicago move, and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry welcomed the possibility.
Why is it important: Trump’s threat to send the National Guard to Chicago comes amidst the DC protests and ongoing lawsuits over the development in Los Angeles.
- Trump’s plans to deploy the National Guard in Chicago are mixed. He said he would send troops after the violent Labor Day weekend on September 2nd, but warned him that he would only deploy places where the governor welcomed them, and then paraphrased the film.
- Meanwhile, protests and the deployment of the National Guard continue. Thousands of protesters marched in Washington over the weekend, demanding that the deployment of security guards, featuring 2,000 troops from six Republican-led states, be ended. The crowd also gathered in Chicago.
Amy Connie Barrett says, “I’m not just for anyone.”
When Amy Connie Barrett was nominated to the US Supreme Court five years ago, her supporters assumed, and her critics feared that she was a reliable vote for President Trump. However, in an interview with USA Today about his new book, “Listenge The Law,” Barrett declared, “Who am I just?” Barrett discussed how she views her role, how being a working mother helped her to better understand some of the cases, and why she raised the heat up one of her liberal colleagues. Read Takeaways from a conversation with Barrett on USA Today.

Do you hear boos at the US open?
The ABC and ESPN did not mute the full-throat chorus of the boos that occurred when President Trump was shown Sunday at the US Open. This came despite the US Tennis Association broadcaster’s demands that they refrain from introducing confusion to the president’s attendees in all abilities. USA Today sports columnist Nancy Armor writes that the focus of the match has become a clumsy attempt at censorship in the USTA, not Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz.
- Return to tennis: The sport’s top rivalry met in the era when it first opened at the third Grand Slam. This was Alcaraz who won the title in the US Open Finals 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
So why do so many moms leave work?
“We are a lot of women, we are educated, we are capable of working, we want to contribute to the workforce. It’s just a situation you know, it’s not something that makes it sustainable. It doesn’t allow us to navigate work and being moms.”
Miya Walker, age 25, is one of the increasing shares of mothers with young children in America. They told USA Today why they were leaving their jobs.
