Swifites may have been starring Taylor Swift on the Wish list at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the pop superstar will miss the 2025 show.
The singer-songwriter will not appear at the UBS Arena for Awards show in New York on Sunday night, September 7th.
Swift will appear in Artist of the Year against Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Morgan Wallen and Lady Gaga.
USA Today contacted the VMA and Swift representatives for confirmation.
2025 MTV VMAS will air at 8pm (ET/5 PT) on CBS, MTV and Paramount+.
Last year, Swift thanked his fiancé Travis Kelse for her acceptance speech for her “two weeks” Video of the Year.
“When I finish a take, and when I say cut, and we’ll finish that take, I’ll just hear people like “Whoo” from the whole studio,” she said. “And one of them was Travis. Everything this man touches is transformed into happiness, fun and magic.”
Swift’s relationship with VMA has been constant in pop culture for nearly 20 years. Swift won her first moon person in 2009 to “You’re with Me,” but that moment was interrupted by Kanye West. She returned to stage in 2010 and performed “Innocent,” which she wrote about West and that first night.
Over the years, Swift has used VMA to launch new Eras, from the 2014 “Shake It Off” performance to the release of the 2022 “Midnights” album.
She wiped out the 2023 awards with seven wins. The camera filmed the dance alongside ice spices, reunited with NSYNC on stage, celebrating her best pop video victory with “Anti-hero.”
Swift’s 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” will be released on October 3rd.
