With Amazon now allowing members to share free shipping perks, some customers may wonder what steps should be taken next, as they have unsubscribed from the program.

Amazon has announced that it will replace its Prime Invitee program with the Amazon family. This is a move that restricts how – with whom – Prime accounts are shared.

The soon-to-be retired Prime Invite Program accepted new members between 2009 and 2015, allowing them to share delivery benefits with anyone, regardless of their home address.

Starting October 1st, Amazon Prime customers want to share shipping perks and additional digital perks. Using the AmazonFamily program, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed to USA Today this week. Move Caps ships benefits to friends and family in the same home, while Amazon Family offers customers other shareable perks.

This is the latest in what’s included.

What does the Amazon Family include?

With the Amazon Family, Prime members can share benefits with up to four teens and up to four children added before April 7, 2025. Everyone has to live in the same house, Amazon said online.

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed to USA Today that it had switched from the Prime Invitee program to the Amazon family.

  • Free shipping
  • Exclusive deals and shopping events like Prime Day
  • Prime Video Content (including movies, series, and live sports; Amazon Family Accounts can stream up to three different videos simultaneously with Prime Video)
  • Amazon Music
  • Free grubhub+ membership
  • Fuel savings at over 7,500 locations on BP, AMOCO and AMPM.

Who is excluded from sharing key benefits?

According to the Amazon website, the following users cannot share the major benefits:

  • Free trial members
  • Students and Young Adult Prime members (ages 18-22)
  • Prime Video Only Members

Are there any restrictions?

Key members who want to share benefits with others must ensure they:

  • Accounts are linked through the Amazon Family
  • Has the same main address
  • Share payment methods with each other for household verification
  • Buy US billing address now for Prime Video Sharing
  • Share payment methods (families can make purchases using their own payment methods)

Why can’t I participate?

According to Amazon, those who are struggling to join the Amazon family may be experiencing the following issues:

  • The Amazon family already has the maximum number of members. There are 2 adults, up to 4 teenagers (added before April 7, 2025) and 4 children.
  • Users recently left the Amazon family. Amazon said that families can leave and revive Amazon families at any time, but they will have to wait 12 months before joining another Amazon family.
  • Users do not live in the same household as the person they invited to share their benefits.

How to sign up for the Amazon Family

To sign up for the Amazon family, customers can:

  • I’m going to the Amazon Family
  • Select “Manage Amazon Family”
  • Send an invitation to Amazon Family Members (including adults and children)
  • Choose the benefits and digital content to share through your family library
