Senator Corey Booker clashes with Democrats over police funding bills
Sen. Cory Booker accused Senate Democrats of “accomplicity” with President Donald Trump in debate over a bipartisan police fundraising bill.
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, once one of the most qualified and well-known bachelor’s degrees in the Senate, announced his engagement to real estate director Alexis Lewis on September 2.
Booker shared photos from the couple’s Hawaiian proposal in a social media post Tuesday.
“Alexis is one of the greatest raised blessings of my life. She has transformed me, has found the joy of bringing my inner life together and centring it on the ground, and building a home that you will nurture with the people you love,” writes Booker.
The 56-year-old former mayor of Newark, New Jersey, writes, “I have a taste of the wonders that affirm the soul of everyday life with my partner, best friend and now my fiancée.”
According to his office, the state senator has been from Washington, D.C. for about 16 months. A New York University graduate, Lewis holds an MBA from Cornell University. Booker and Lewis were wearing cash registers adjusted with snaps from the Showsade series, which looked like they were made on the beach.
Booker pointed to Lewis’ engagement ring in the first photo of the coastal carousel, but another photo shows Booker suggesting it on another lap. In other photos, Booker carries Lewis and they embrace another posed photo.
He added, “We are excited about this journey, very enjoyable and we are deeply grateful for the love, support and energy that many people have shared with us.”
“We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such a beautiful community that lifts us up with love and commitment,” Booker wrote. In the story released last month, Booker gave a Washington examiner an inside look at his life with his future wife.
He told the examiner that Lewis asked him to open a “for you” page in his Tiktok, featuring customized proposals via algorithms, on one of his first dates.
“I held my breath when I opened it and she was able to watch videos of animals, nerds, who I love food videos,” Booker said.
“I’ve never thought about it through dating lenses, so it was just a funny moment, but here after a year and a half, we’re still together,” Booker said of Lewis. He also revealed in an interview that the pair live together in Washington, DC.
Booker previously dated Hollywood actress Rosario Dawson for over two years. This included star-studded additions to his short-lived run for the 2020 Democratic nomination. With two red heart emojis.
