Labor Day is Monday, September 1st, with many national restaurant chains, retailers and grocery stores open, banks, post offices and stock markets closed on holidays.
The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, and by 1894 23 states had adopted leave. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, President Glover Cleveland signed a law that makes national public holidays a national holiday on September 28th each year, the first Monday of September.
