Snoop Dogg deals with backlash against his controversial comments about LGBTQ+ characters in children’s movies.

The 53-year-old rapper recently fired fire after he made a comment on a “give it” podcast. There he took his grandson to watch the Pixar film Lightyear and said it was unfortunate because the same-sex couple gave birth to a baby together. “These are kids,” he said on the August 20th episode. “Do we have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions! I have no answers.”

After sparking homophobic protests and accusations, Snoop Dogg responded to critics by commenting on Hollywood’s unlocked Instagram post about the story. He wrote that he was caught off guard and that he had no answer to “my grandson.”

He continued, “It’s my bad thing to not know the answer from six years ago.

On the original podcast, Snoop Dogg said that while his grandson was watching “Lightyear,” he asked how a woman could have a baby with another woman, and he wasn’t sure how to answer. The “Toy Story” spinoff, released in 2022, featured early scenes that Buzz Lightyear commander Alisha revealed to have welcomed a child along with his wife. The film ignited a conservative backlash upon release due to a brief kiss between Alisha and her partner.

On the podcast, Snoop Dogg denounced the film with “throw me in the middle” of a situation where he “didn’t have the answer” for his grandson, and he said he was “scary to go to the film now” because of the experience.

The comments have attracted anger and ock laughs on social media. One X-Post responded to the statement and slammed Snoop Dogg as “the biggest sold out in hip hop.” “Wait, no, this is actually homophobia,” another X user said. Earlier this year, Snoop Dogg also faced social media outrage after performing at an event celebrating President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Lauren Gunderson, a writer who worked on an early version of “Lightyear,” took a thread to protect the story after Snoop Dogg’s comments. Gunderson said when he “needed a partner for a key character” in the film, “it was very natural to write “her” instead of “he.”

“As much as I knew the expressive effect it could have as much as the details of that were in the film,” she said. “Little lines, big deal. I’m pleased that they were holding it. I’m proud of it. Infinite. Love is love.”

In response to thread users who criticized Snoop Dogg, Gunderson simply replied, “He sucks.”
