WASHINGTON – Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook will need to release mortgage documents to combat President Donald Trump’s attempts to remove her, Democrat Locanna told NBC.

“She has to be transparent so we know this is just political football,” said Kanna, a leading progressive voice in California, “We’ll meet the press with Kristen Welker.”

Trump announced on August 25 that he had fired a chef for alleged mortgage fraud.

She is accused of saying in mortgage documents that homes in Michigan and Georgia are each “major residences” but have not been charged with a crime.

Kanna said Trump is “following Richard Nixon’s playbook to disrupt the Fed and bullying the Fed.”

Trump has repeatedly complained about Fed Chairman Jerome Powell not cutting interest rates quickly enough to drive the economy.

Kanna said Trump would only blame herself. The president’s drastic tariffs put inflationary pressure on the economy, and “leave the Fed in a favorable situation,” he said.

Both the customs duties and the termination of Cook are in the hands of the court.

The August 29 Court of Appeal held that most of Trump’s global tariffs were illegal, but the court has now allowed them to stay for now to give the Supreme Court time to ask for weight.

Also, a federal judge is deciding whether Cook can stay in her job, the court is considering whether her dismissal is legal.
