With over 11,000 outages reported on Saturday evening, August 30th, some Verizon customers may be experiencing service issues.
According to Downtector, around 7:19 PM ET there were approximately 11,134 reports of Verizon’s wireless outages. Verizon customers have reported service issues throughout the afternoon, with more than 22,000 people currently reporting outages around 3:45pm and over 18,000 people reporting connectivity issues as of 6:09pm
The provider is aware that the official Verizon support page responded to multiple users on Saturday night and said, “We are aware of software issues affecting some customers’ wireless services. Engineers are involved and are working quickly to identify and resolve the issue.
“We know how much we rely on Verizon and we apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience,” the provider continued.
Verizon did not give you a timeline as to when the issue would be resolved. So far, the number of reports appears to have been declining.
Why does your iPhone call it “SOS”?
Customers currently experiencing service issues comment on their Verizon community page that their phones are in “SOS mode.” A California customer commented that since noon (in California) new iPhones must be placed in SOS.
According to Apple support, users who lose their services may have their iPhone displaying “SOS” or “SOS only” messages at the top of the screen. In SOS mode, emergency calls can be continued.
To turn off SOS mode, users can go to iPhone settings and, according to Apple support, they can turn on plane mode for at least 15 seconds. Next, turn off airplane mode.
Where is the Verizon service going outage?
Although outages are nationwide, down detector maps show the issues of service that affect primarily the East Coast, particularly in New York, Boston and Washington, DC.
However, down devices have been reported outages in Palm Springs and elsewhere in California.
The most problematic Metropolitan areas include Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles.
