  • Yemeni Prime Minister Hoothi and other ministers were reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in Sanaa.
  • Israel identified senior Hooty officials targeting the strike, but did not confirm all the victims.
  • Since the 2023 Gaza War, Houthis has been in solidarity with the Palestinians to increase attacks on Red Sea vessels and missile launches on Israel.

Aug 30 (Reuters) – Yemeni government prime minister Hoothi and several other ministers have been killed in an Israeli strike in the capital Sanaa, the group’s communications agency run by the group said on Saturday, citing a statement by the chief of Madi al-Mashath.

Many others were injured on Thursday’s strike without providing details.

Israel said Friday that the airstrikes targeted the group’s chief of staff, defense minister and other senior officials alongside Iran, confirming the results.

Mashat’s statement did not clarify whether Defense Minister Hooty was one of the victims.

The Houthi-Run news agency issued a statement from the defense minister shortly after confirming the prime minister’s death, citing that the group said it was ready to stand up to Israel.

The statement did not mention Thursday’s airstrikes, and it was unclear whether it was taken before or after the attack.

Ahmad Ghaleb Al-Rahwi became prime minister almost a year ago, but the de facto leader of the government was his agent, Mohamed Moftah, assigned on Saturday to carry out the duties of Prime Minister.

Rawi was primarily seen as a figure not part of the inner circle of Hooty leaders.

Defense Minister Mohamed Al-Atifi runs the Houthi missile brigade group and is considered a major missile expert.

The Israeli military said the fighter plane had hit a complex in the Sanaa area, where senior Hooty figures were gathered, describing the attack as “complex operations” made possible by intelligence gathering and the superiority of air.

On Thursday, Israeli security sources said the Target was a variety of places where many senior Hooti officials gathered to watch the aired speeches recorded by leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi.

As Israel’s war in Gaza against Palestinian extremist groups began in October 2023, the Houtis lined up in Iran attacked ships in the Red Sea, which they described as an act of solidarity with the Palestinians.

They also frequently fire missiles at Israel, most of which are intercepted. Israel responded with a strike over Yemen’s Hooti controlled area, including the important Hodeida port.

Last year, Israel carried out a series of assassinations of Hamas and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah, which had significantly weakened the two groups.

“We remain immovable in our true position to support and position with the people of Gaza and to build and develop the capabilities of our military, facing all the challenges and dangers,” said a statement by Mahdi al-Mashat.
