  • Monterey Car Week is held every August in Monterey, California.
  • This car event features one of the world’s most expensive car auctions.
  • Not everything sold at Monterey auctions have a chin drop price.

Monterey Car Week is an event where some of the world’s most expensive vehicles are sold at auction.

This year, the last Ferrari SP3 Daytona to be built, sold for $26 million. Sales like this are something everyone pays attention to during Monterey Car Week, but what about the cheapest cars sold during these auctions? Surprisingly, this auction sells cars that regular people may be able to buy, but they are not your regular grocery getters or mall crawlers.

Harrington Cobra Junior Car – $21,000

This little car is called a junior car. These types of vehicles are made for children to drive, reducing the version of the original model. Not only is the vehicle body scaled, but the engine and price also reduced.

This car is a small version of the Shelby Cobra. It has a one-cylinder engine and can reach a top speed of 40 mph.

F Racer Junior – $24,000

There was a Ferrari F40 sold in Monterey for $3.8 million. If it happens to be out of your budget, this F-Racer junior can save you some money. You can’t reach 200 mph, but it’s a cool way to pay homage to the legendary Ferrari. If you take your time, this fake F40 could be driven by more miles than the real thing.

1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV – $28,000

This Alfa Romeo may be small, but at least it’s a real car. This GTV is performance oriented as it features a full roll cage, moroso ignition and an ATL safety fuel cell. Italian flag coloring adds character and styling to your car.

Harrington Spider Junior Car – $31,200

This Spider Junior Car from Harrington is modeled after the Shelby 289 Cobra. Bright red paint will definitely draw attention to this to make it a spin.

Harrington Daytona Junior Car – $32,400

Another junior car in Harrington. This is modeled after the Ferrari GTB/4 365 Daytona Spider. 365 Daytona also urged the latest V12 Ferrari to be released.

Porsche 936 Junior – $33.600

Unlike other junior cars sold in Monterey, this Porsche 936 Junior was built by the manufacturer that actually made the real car. This junior vehicle was built to honor the original 936, which won 24 hours of Le Mans in 1981. Only 100 of these models were constructed.

1964 Fiat 500 D Convertible – $33.600

This Fiat may be the same size as a junior car, but that’s a real deal. Based on the 500 Nuova, this car features a removable extended roof, similar to the soft Targa top. The vehicle has been completely restored and is actually showing off the Verde Acquamarina Paint.

1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider by Pinin Farina- $39,200

This classic Alfa Romeo was designed by legendary Italian coach builder Pininfarina. The original owner of the vehicle used it primarily as a race car, and SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) confirmed that three racing logbooks were completed.

1965 Volvo PV 544 Sports – $44,800

The Volvo was the first attempt at a unibody chassis by a Swedish automaker. Material shortages during World War II required Volvo to build smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, which led to the creation of the PV 544. The Sport Trim Level adds a slightly larger engine and more power, along with Hunter’s green paint and interior.

1964 Studebaker Next R2- $47.600

The stylist who hired the team to build this vehicle is nothing but Raymond Lowey, the creator of the 1955 redesigned Coca-Cola bottle. This Avanti has a V8 engine with a difference between an R2 supercharger, power steering, silent muffler, floor-shift automatic transmission and twin traction. In the year of the final model in 1964, only 809 examples were built, and only 281 were overcharged with the R2 variant.
