  • CX and CX.R are considered visions for Corvette to move forward.
  • CX.R will be featured in Gran Turismo 7, the latest in long-term racing games.
  • Prior to this year, Corvette had not created a concept since 2009.

General Motors revealed two concept cars on August 15th. Chevrolet Corvette CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo.

Fighter jets and video games were designed inspiration by companies called “actively futuristic.” The show took place at Quail, a vehicle event in Carmel, California.

The CX.R, which is all electrical media, is the latest and last concept of several Corvette concepts unfolded this year.

Several GM studios were responsible for drafting the Corvette-inspired hypercar. The first was released from GM’s UK studios in March, and the second was released last month from a studio in Pasadena, California. Both concepts were electricity. GM’s design network spans studios in Michigan, Southern California, China, Korea and the UK.

However, the CX concept, designed and manufactured at Chevrolet Performance Studios in Warren, Michigan, serves as a blueprint for the brand’s future.

There is no production plan described in either concept.

Chevrolet’s executive design director, Philzack, in a media call, said it “will affect where we move forward.” He added that before this year’s design experiment, the Corvette had not created a concept since 2009.

The most notable design element is the opening in the CX’s engraved canopy. The front of the CX sways upwards, just like tilting the Fedora hat. Instead of doors, the driver must grip the sides to enter the vehicle. The electric all-wheel drive supercar has four motors, one per wheel, that produces horsepower of over 2,000. The designer chose to mount a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery on the chassis for its center of gravity and ideal front weight distribution.

CX.R will be featured later this month in the latest installment of the long-term racing game Gran Turismo 7. The hybrid features a central 2.0 liter, dual overhead cam and a twin-turbo V8 engine that makes up to 900 horsepower and engine speeds of 15,000 rpm. The V8 drives the rear wheels, with three electric motors (one for each front wheel and one third of the eight-speed gearbox) bringing a system output of 2,000 horsepower.
