Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid worked late in the office in May 2024 at the team’s training facility. A few weeks after the 2024 NFL Draft, Reid’s office was hit by gunshots that smashed his office shortly after midnight on May 4th.
Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Colonel Jacob Bexina confirmed in a statement to USA Today Sports on May 4, 2024 that officers responded to the incident at the facility.
“When officers arrived, they were told by night security that someone in the building warned them to hear the noise and observed what appears to be a bullet hole in the window,” the statement read. “The incident is being investigated as an aggravated attack as the building was being occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window. No one was hit and no injuries were involved in the incident.”
No arrests or charges have been made in the case, and Vessina says the investigation is ongoing.
Those close to the situation told USA Today Sports’ Jarrett Bell that the team believes it was a random incident. The person spoke on condition of anonymity given the continued police investigation.
According to the Kansas City star, the bullet drilled holes in the windows and blinds before staying between his toilet and the door to the office.
Star said two more bullets hit the training facility, along with a shot in Reid’s office. One hit the floor above his office, and the other hit the outdoor air conditioning unit.
Reed, 66, is one of the few people in the franchise who knows about the incident. The bulletproof glass was later installed in his office.
Kansas City declined to comment.
The Kansas City practice facility is located at the northern tip of the Truman Sports Complex, including Gehafield, Arrowhead Stadium, home to the Chiefs’ home, and Kaufman Stadium, home to MLB’s Kansas City Royals.
