US LBM Coaches Poll: Texas Longhorns No. 1
The US LBM coach poll has returned for another season, and Paul Meyerberg breaks down the storyline to know in the preseason.

The Big Ten and SEC reranked their 1-136 debut USA Today Sports College football for the 2025 season, reflecting the top polls of US LBM coaches in the preseason.
However, Texas and Ohio are not at the top of the list. Instead, the re-ranking starts with No. 1 Pennsylvania and No. 2 Georgia, followed by No. 3 Clemson. The Longhorns land on No. 4, and the Buckeyes land on No. 6, sandwiching No. 5 Notre Dame.
At this point, the Nittany Lions are more certain than Ohio State, re-murding new quarterbacks, new backfields, mostly defensive front sevens, and new coordinators on offense and defense.
The switch to Georgia above the SEC comes from one of the biggest questions in the bowl section that enters the regular season. After beating Texas twice last season, are you sure the Bulldogs are poised to hand over the Conference control to the Longhorns?

However, this may not last past the first full weekend of the year when Ohio State hosts Texas in one of the latest marquee season opening games in FBS history. A victory by either team may be enough to justify the leap to the top spot.
The top 12 will be No. 7 Alabama, No. 8 Oregon, No. 1, and No. 1. 9 Miami, No. 10LSU, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 12 Illinois. LSU is another team in line to get a big boost after week one if the Tigers win at Clemson.
Overall, the top 30 teams in the first re-ranked are 10 from the SEC, eight from the Big Ten, five from the Big 12, four from the ACC, two from Mountain West, and one from the Fighting Irish.
The Power by Power Four Conference is Pennsylvania, Georgia, Clemson and Kansas, ranked 13th. The Wildcats are No. 18 Arizona and No. 19 Texas Institute of Technology. 28TCU, No. It’s in front of the very crowded top of the Big 12, including 30 Utah.
Among the group of five, preseason favourites are No. 23 Boise State (MWC), No. 35 (American), No. 48 James Madison (Sunbelt), No. 50 Toledo (MAC), and No. 55 West Kentucky (Conference USA).
And at the bottom of 1-136 is the familiar face. No. 136 Kent State will begin the regular season at the same location as Golden Flash ended in 2024.
