Zelensky to meet Trump in DC after the Alaska Summit with Putin
Ukrainian President Zelenki confirmed a meeting with President Trump at the White House on Monday to end the Russian war after the Alaska Summit with Trump and Putin.
Government documents containing details about the meeting schedule and seating chart, plus a luxurious menu and reminders to pronounce President Vladimir Putin’s name “Poo-Tihn” were accidentally left at Alaska hotel printers during a meeting with Russian leadership.
Documents containing State Department markings reported by the NPR were found at a printer at the Anchorage Hotel around 9am, hours before the summit with Putin and Trump’s summit at a nearby military base.
Hotel guests shared the page with NPR. The document recorded a menu of planned three courses of lunch that did not occur, including the exact location and meeting times of the summit at Elmendorf Richardson’s joint base, the phone number of government officials, and chairs used by the president.
The document appears to have been prepared by federal staff and is left behind. Several information, including lunch plans and press conferences, was released before the meeting was held.
But many of these were types of information that the White House normally wouldn’t share until after the event, such as whether gifts were exchanged. Some of the details are rooted in sensitive information that has never been made public, such as which room Trump is in.
Security Incident
Meetings with world leaders, such as the president’s planned moves and which seats will be filmed during the meeting, are often kept secret until they are held for security reasons.
When such a security breaches have occurred previously, they are usually considered an international incident and investigated. In 2023, while the president was in Ireland, there were police documents detailing President Joe Biden’s moves, including which streets would be closed and other security measures would be shut down.
The White House did not immediately return a request for USA Today’s comment to August 17th. However, White House Deputy Director Anna Kelly told NPR on August 16 that the paper is a “multi-page lunch menu,” suggesting that leaving information on a public printer is not a security breach.
Kelly also rejected the article in a News Nation statement.
“It’s hilarious that NPR has published a multi-page lunch menu and calling it a ‘security violation’,” Kelly said. “This type of self-proclaimed “investigation journalism” is the reason why no one takes them seriously, and they are no longer funded by taxpayers thanks to President Trump. ”
Lunch Menu
Two of the pages seen on NPR included a menu of cancelled lunches. This included fillet mignon with brandy peppercorn sauce and ohhyun ollympia, green salad and creme brulee.
Other pages included seats for Trump, Putin and his aides to take at lunchtime, as well as which rooms they were in.
The remaining pages include staff contact information and names of 13 US and Russian state leaders who participated, including voice pronunciation of Russian names. Among the details was a gift from Trump to Putin, “American Bald Eagle Desk Statues.”
Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky and several leaders of European countries are scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House on August 18th.
