Major European leaders join Washington’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week after Trump appeared to have rally with Ukrainian wartime presidents to bring together Ukrainian wartime presidents and embrace the peace stance held by Ukrainian President Putin.

Prime Minister of the Kingdom of England, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy, President Emmanuel Macron of France, President Friedrich Merz of Germany, and President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Union, are all scheduled to travel to the United States ahead of the meeting on August 18th.

This week’s meeting in Washington has shattered his skills to succumb to his deal after a much-exaggerated summit between Trump and Putin, but has not achieved a major breakthrough in peace negotiations over Russia’s war with Ukraine.

After the meeting, President Putin declared that he had reached an “accord” that would allow him to resolve the “Ukrainian problem” and restore “business-like” relations with the United States. After a while, Trump said he had only made progress without providing details.

“There were a lot of points we agreed to,” Trump told reporters after the Alaska summit without elaborating. “Some big things we haven’t got there,” he added. “So, there’s no trade until there’s a transaction.”

Trump discussed the ceasefire, the possibility of land exchanges, and the end of the war in sought a meeting between Putin, Zelensky and himself.

On social media, Zelenskyy stressed that it is important for European leaders to be involved in discussions about security assurances from the US and Europe.

“We are grateful for the invitation. It’s important that everyone agree that conversations are needed at the leader level to clarify all the details, determine the steps required, and decide what to do to work.”

NATO has announced that NATO Secretary General Mark Latte will be taking part in the August 17th Emergency Virtual Meeting, a group of countries that have offered to provide security assurances to postwar Ukraine.

Macron held a conference, attended by several world leaders traveling to Washington, including Mertz, his ancestors and von der Leyen. Zelenskyy was scheduled to attend from Brussels, where he met Von Der Leyen.
