President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, August 15th, after months of failed diplomatic efforts to end the Ukrainian war.

The two leaders meet at a US military base in Alaska. Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky will not be present. Zelenskyy spoke with Trump twice this week, rejecting the idea of territorial concessions to end the war.

Trump said on August 14 that the “more important meeting” would be a meeting that includes both Zelensky and Putin. It’s going to come next, he said.

“We’re going to see what happens,” Trump said on August 14th. “And I think Putin will make peace. I think President Zelensky will make peace. I think President Zelensky will make peace. I’ll see if they can get along well.

White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, who appeared on Fox News’ Fox and Friends on August 14, said Trump’s meeting with Putin would be followed by a “bilateral lunch” between the two leaders and their respective delegations.
