President Donald Trump said he had no idea that convicted sex trafficker Gislaine Maxwell would be transferred to a Coossia federal prison in Texas. The move has infuriated the victims and their families.
Ghislaine Maxwell moved to Texas Prison amid legal efforts
Ghislaine Maxwell was transferred to a low-security Texas prison despite policies banning sex offenders.
President Donald Trump said he had no idea that he would be redirected to the Cusia Federal Prison in Texas after interviewing convicted sex trafficker Gislaine Maxwell in July.
“I had no idea about it,” Trump said on August 5th. A reporter asked if he had approved the transfer. “I read about it the same way you did.”
Maxwell was recently moved from a low-security federal prison in Tallahassee, Florida to a minimum-security federal prison camp in Brian, Texas. Her new home also includes Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and celebrity housewife Jen Shah.
Trump said anything requested by his assistant attorney general, Todd Blanche, is “completely appropriate.” Blanche, who personally represented Trump at the 2024 New York Criminal Trial, interviewed Maxwell in Tallahassee, Florida, but it is unclear what exactly the closed door discussion came.
The government has not made public the transcripts from the interviews, and has not revealed whether it will lead to increased justice for Epstein and Maxwell’s victims.
“That’s not too unusual,” Trump added Maxwell’s move. However, not everyone agrees with the characteristics.
“It’s a country club,” former federal prison guard Robert Hood told the Washington Post about Maxwell’s new home. “Inmates don’t go to such places if they have sex offences. That’s really unheard of.”
Blanche interviewed Maxwell as the Justice Department tried to quell public outrage over the decision not to publish the FBI’s investigation file in Jeffrey Epstein, who died awaiting a federal sex trafficking trial in 2019.
Maxwell, Robert Maxwell, daughter of a well-known British media mogul, was convicted in 2021 of small numbers of sex trafficking. Her seemingly positive prisons are driving the enraged victims and their families.
“President Trump sent a clear message today. Pedophiles deserve priority treatment and their victims are not important,” the surviving brother of Epstein’s victim Virginia Giuffre, who died of suicide in April, said in a statement along with Epstein’s victim Annie Farmer and sister Maria Farmer.
Trump has been friends with Epstein for many years, interacting with both the dishonest financial figure and Epstein’s ex-girlfriend Githlane Maxwell. The friendship ended around 2004.
Epstein pleaded guilty to two Florida prostitution crimes in 2008 and was arrested by federal authorities in 2019 for sex trafficking charges. A New York chief examiner ruled that his death at Manhattan federal prison that year was a suicide.
