Make the best chocolate chip cookies to celebrate National Cookie Day.
The problem has been resolved
National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day is back. That means anyone with sweet teeth is lucky as several brands offer deals on Monday, August 4th.
Chocolate chip cookies rank desserts that frequently go to as the most popular dishes of the second quarter of 2025, and retain a special place in people’s hearts and stomachs, as further evidenced by Yougov’s most popular culinary survey, which beats nachos, lasagna and more.
With the invention of chocolate chip cookies dating back to about a century, it’s no wonder desserts have their own days. What you need to know about National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day is what it happened and includes some deals that will help you satisfy your cravings.
What is the origin of chocolate chip cookies?
Chef Ruth Wakefield, who ran Tollhouse Inn with her husband in Whitman, Massachusetts, is believed to have invented chocolate chip cookies in 1937 when he cut out a semi-sweet chocolate bar into bits and added it to butterdropped cookies. She published cookie recipes in 1938, and Nestle began to promote the recipes with its packaging and company ads.
Wakefield is credited, but there is evidence that there was chocolate chip cookies in the 1870s. In her 2017 book, “Bravetart: Iconic American Desserts,” author and pastry chef Stella Parks explains how she discovered chocolate chip cookies that were promoted in supermarket ads in the early 1930s, and a recipe for “chocolate jumble” cookies, made with “chocolate jumble” cookies dating back to 1877.
Still, Wakefield “is very impressive that it has been popularising and developing recipes that are still in use in 100 years,” Parks told the Gastropod Podcast, hosted on Food News Site Eater in April 2022.
