Why food recalls are on the rise
E. coli, metals, and even dead bats have been found in recalled foods. In fact, food recalls are on the rise. But that may actually be a good sign. This is why.
USA TODAY
Ada Valley Meat Company recalls more than 1,000 pounds of frozen ground beef after consumers discovered metal pieces in their food, according to a USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) notification.
“FSI is concerned that some products may be in consumer refrigerators or freezers,” the agency said in a July 29 warning. There was at least one complaint about the contamination, but no injuries were reported, FSI said.
According to Ada Valley Meat and FSIS, 1,065 pounds of recalled ground beef were packaged on May 28th and 30th and distributed to five states. Here’s what you need to know.
Which products do you remember?
The recalled product includes a 20 pound cardboard box case with four 5 pound plastic bags from the “Ada Valley Fully Cooked Ground Beef.” The package has a lot code of 35157 on May 28, 2025 “Pack Date” or 35156 lot code of 30, 2025 and an external label.
The affected products have “Est. 10031” within the USDA inspection mark and have been shipped to distributors and other facilities in California, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
What should I do if I remember meat?
If you have a recalled meat package at home, FSIS recommends throwing it away or returning it to the place you want to buy it. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Ada Valley Gourmet Foods at gerrit@adavalley.com or the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 and mphotline@usda.gov.
