Adam Sandler tees off again with “Happy Gilmore 2”
Adam Sandler returns to “Happy Gilmore 2” with Julie Bowen, Christopher MacDonald and the Travis Kelce Cameo where you won’t come.
Adam Sandler has grown at least a bit over the past 30 years.
His “Happy Gilmore” co-star Julie Bowen noticed. In the first film in 1996, Happy’s “Happy Place,” featuring Sandler as a chance golfer, is a dreamlike scene in which Virginia (Bowen) dressed in a pitcher of white lingerie and beer double fistures. (Happy’s Bad Place? Birginia in Black Lingerie and Canoodling with Rival Shooter McGavin, and Christopher McDonald.)
Cut 29 years later. In “Happy Gilmore 2” (currently streaming on Netflix), Sandler, 58 includes moments where current Virginia shares screen time with her younger self, making her “unbelievable” happy. this It was his happy place. “Sorry,” he says, and Virginia replies: “Oh, sweet, don’t worry. I’m not here to judge your fantasies.”
“When he wanted to update a bit and comment, I wasn’t sure no one needed it,” Bowen, 55, says in a video chat with Sandler and McDonald. “I love that scene. It’s a bad place and when the shooter grabs me (behind) I love it. I didn’t feel objectified. But it was too much with the tongue” (“Oh, sorry,” MacDonald, 70.)
Filming a new scene felt “exactly correct” for Bowen, but “happiness has grown too,” she says. Bowen thinks that as long as Sandler says, “Yes, maybe I was a little immature,” he thought to his two daughters a bit, “Love you.” But I’ve always loved the scene, so I’m really immature. ”
Sandler adds: “When you see you at this age, you still look amazing, you’re sweet as hell, people love you. It was good to see that.”
In a sequel co-written by Sandler, Happy left golf a few years ago after a tragic accident. Happy again hits the link when he needs to raise $300,000 to send his daughter, Vienna (Sunny Sandler) to a prestigious ballet school in Paris. Also, when energy drink mogul (Benny Saffdi) tries to popularize more extreme versions of the sport, Happy must save traditional golf.
The OG “Happy Gilmore” trio are freewheeling chatting with USA Today and Goof each other about the much-anticipated reunion.
Q: Adam, there are a few holes to get his signature swing back. How about you in real life?
Sandler: I didn’t practice at all before the movie. I don’t know why. And I said, “Oh, yeah, how about this again?” And it came back quite quickly. The beauty of the film is that you can swing and miss. And they say, “Okay, let’s do another take.” We got some chance to get it right.
Julie and Chris, the film is packed with cameos. Who was your favorite to watch the walk-on set?
Sandler: None of them spoke to Julie.
Bowen: Also, my trailer was a mile away from the set.
McDonald’s: By design.
Bowen: The call sheet has been coded. It had no one’s name and there were 135 different cast members. I still had kids at school in California and filmed in New Jersey, so I was going back and forth. I saw a Polaroid in my hair and makeup trailer and saw someone who had no mention of me. And I’m like, “When was he here?” “He’s newscaster No. 4.” And I’m like, “Are you kidding me?”
Sandler: Baba Watson. You loved your Baba. By the way, Julie knows her golf.
McDonald’s: He’s a good guy, Baba Watson. I know some of these golf legends and legends in training. But I saw them one-on-one and said, “Oh, my god, it’s Rory McIlroy. It’s Bryson Deccanbeau. It’s Scotty Schaeffler.” That was amazing to me. And I came on my break just to hang out with them.
Sandler: They all love to watch shooters.
Adam, both your daughter and wife are in the sequel. What does getting these kinds of movies you were making with friends means that you’re part of this larger family legacy?
Sandler: It’s all happening fast. The kids are growing up – they are really interested in acting and film, and it has always been us to work with our friends and family. It’s cool to see them get better. They work hard, go to school for it, and they love it. So, yeah, I’m just proud. I couldn’t love it more.
Has there anything from the first movie you used in your new movie?
Bowen: I put my hair back on. Was that your OG jersey?
Sandler: I got a different size lol. Hockey jerseys went from the medium to something. There were some XSs there. The real Grandpa Club (from the first movie) is in the film.
Bowen: Finger gun?
McDonald’s: I took the kids out.
Chris, do people give you finger guns?
McDonald’s: Well, it depends on where I am. Airport, 4,000. 9,000 walking through the streets of New York. It seems like I’m in public every day. It’s really cool. People are just kind enough to go “Shoot!” and we laugh out loud. Fans continue this classic. So there’s absolutely no problem pulling out the gun if necessary.
