Claressa Shields will defend their indisputable heavyweight title against “The Smiling Assassin” on Saturday, July 26th.
It’s Rani Daniels, a New Zealander with an uncontrollable smile that he wears anywhere except inside the boxing ring.
Daniels, 37, won the IBF World Heavyweight title in 2023 and currently holds the IBF Light Heavyweight title. Quick and athletic, she won seven times in a row. But she is still an important underdog to the Shield and for good reason.
Daniels didn’t start boxing until he was 24 years old. The 30-year-old Shields began his boxing career at 15 and has since won two Olympic gold medals, a world title in five categories and an indisputable world title in three categories.
She lost once in the 80 battles between the amateur and professional Shields (to Savanna Marshall in 2012). It’s unlikely that Daniels will pass the second loss.
USA Today Sports covers updates, analysis and highlights from the Claressa Shields vs Lani Daniels card here.
