SAN DIEGO – The day after one of the most controversial episodes in the show’s history, “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone gave a brief response to the laccus they caused.

“We are very sorry,” Parker said with a smile on the Comedi Central comic animation panel next to Stone, “Beavis and Butthead,” Honcho Microphone Judge and “Digiman” creator Andy Samberg.

The premiere of “South Park” season 27 was torn apart by President Donald Trump, showing him literally in bed naked with Satan, referring to the surprise cancellation of their Paramount Boss settlement with the president, “60 Minutes” flap and CBS’s “Stephen Colbert with the Late Show.” It all followed Wednesday with 50 new episode agreements with Paramount and “South Park” creators, as well as a lucrative new streaming deal on Paramount+.

White House spokesman Taylor Rogers denounced the episode in a statement to USA Today, calling it a “4th rating show” with “South Park” “not related to over 20 years”.

When Josh Horowitz, moderator of the Comic-Con panel, joked, Parker replied, “It’s fine, I’m ready.”

Parker and Stone spoke at length about making jokes like the speed of today’s topic comedy and news. “It’s not just ‘SNL’ anymore,” Stone said.

Parker revealed that they were in their studio this morning, trying to grasp the episodes for next week. “I don’t know now,” Parker said. “It’s very stressful.”

And while working on the July 23rd season premiere, Parker added, “I didn’t know if anyone would like this three days ago.” They looked at the newspaper and changed things on the spot until they needed to do it.

Regarding the big ideas for the season, “My whiteboard blank, guy,” Parker said. When they were asked to do a summer promotional video hype about the new season, they created plenty of scenes just for that sizzling reel. “Do you seriously think we went and made lots of shows beforehand and relied on them?”

The stone then rang out, and he laughed seriously: “There’s no politics. We’re not doing it (things).”

Stone feels that he is most competitive, “what kids do on Tiktok and YouTube.” In fact, he and Parker have admitted that they get a lot of entertainment online and from social media. “We have great gigs, but I’m jealous. I see someone doing something in their front yard and it’s really funny.”
