In an escalation of the fight against the judiciary, Attorney General Pam Bondy said the official, whose purpose was to replace President Donald Trump’s former lawyer as New Jersey’s top prosecutor, was “just excluded.”

“This Department of Justice does not tolerate fraudulent judges, particularly when threatening the president’s powers under Article II and II,” Bondy announced in a post on July 22nd.

Earlier in the day, a committee of judges refused to permanently appoint Alina Haba, Trump’s chosen interim US lawyer for the New Jersey area in March. This has led New Jersey’s first assistant US lawyer, Desiree Grace, to take the top role in the office.

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment, including whether Grace was removed entirely from the Justice Department or what it means to announce the role of the top New Jersey prosecutor.

According to her LinkedIn page, Grace has served in her New Jersey office for almost nine years. She could not immediately contact her for comment.
