This year’s National Ice Cream Day was July 20th, and according to one source, vanilla was once again the best.
Data from Instacart, published on July 9th, shows that vanilla remained the most ordered ice cream flavor of Americans on the platform in the summer of 2024. It was also the number one flavor in the summer of 2023, according to previous data from the delivery platform.
Vanilla accounts for 27% of all ice cream sold last summer, and “emphasizes its versatility as a hub for endless Sunday options,” Instacart said. Chocolate, cookies and cream were second and third on the list, respectively.
According to data collected between May 27th and September 2nd, 2024, pineapple coconut, pistachios and green tea are three flavors that are rapidly gaining popularity. Pineapple Coconut has grown in popularity by 37% between 2023 and 2024, Instacart said.
President Ronald Reagan in 1984 declared that National Ice Cream Day was celebrated on the third Sunday of July, and July was the National Ice Cream Month.
