On the North American kickoff of her Mayhemball tour on July 16th, Gaga seized the stage at T-Mobile Arena on a cheeky melodrama, so no one dared to ask a question from anyone at the two-hour house.

She will finish in Chicago in September and achieve multiple arena dates in Vegas and in cities that include two more in Vegas, including two more in Seattle, San Francisco, New York and Miami, before winning her sights all over the world.
The concert confirmed that Lady Gaga is the ultimate performer, along with a visual that evoked whether Alice in Wonderland rolled the rabbit hole into the arms of David Bowie and Marilyn Manson.
Four acts (and finale) with poetic names such as “Every Chessboard is Two Queen” and “Velvet and Vice” are a team of over 20 dancers, a team of robust bands that run through songs and sets that rival Broadway musicals.
This was a monster mash in the coolest sense, where feathered feathers and black lace bodies coexisted with swirling capes and knee-high marching boots. Pop goth from “Abracadabra”, “Love Game” from the disco feed, and “shallow” hearts crumbly with “shallow” sound. And, as Gaga reminded her towards the end of the show, everyone is welcomed and respected.
The songs from her latest studio album, Mayhem, owned about half of Gaga’s setlist. The theme of the new album explores the duality of chaos and wonder, darkness and light, as well as this fascinating production.
The background is a series of white pillars with scalloped edges, a blank palette of green lighting to accentuate the “Garden of Eden,” and a purple hue that accompanies the “killer,” a subtle nod to the Prince-influenced fun crocker.
Gaga often acted as a pipe piper in a parade of dancers, strumming and stomping on a half-length catwalk onto the arena floor. Despite her rock stepping with the Fleet Footed Theatre Company, Gaga sang like her 14 Grammy-winning great powers, smoldering with the strength of a chameleon that secured her respect as an actress.
She may be urging fans to “raising your legs” as she sprints through long blonde hair buried in a skeleton sandbox for “the perfect celebrity,” fierce commentary spilled from Crimson’s lips, or through “zombie boy” black tafeta gowns. And of course, the fierce burrows of her and the dancers flaunted under the plumage of a pillow for the delightful singer-lined “born this way.”
Typical of Gaga concerts, the elaborate sets are refreshing, and the costumes are Halloween dreams. But the most powerful moment is when she shelved the play measuring the twitching and breasts of a broken windup doll, and her pure voice erupts.
Her vocals were her own ballet during “Million Reasons,” which she played for the first time since 2020, but her charming version of “shallow” and “dying with a smile” resonated most deeply on the night.
Her slow ride on the gondola during “shallow” was a soothing visual of the gorgeous prayer that Ballard appears in this exciting solo version. As for “Die with a Smile,” Gaga slid behind the piano, leading a sold-out crowd in a smashed singalon with Bruno Mars, and easily slamming every big note.
Gaga lives in many personas in her professional life, but the beauty of her live performance lives in a quiet moment when she drops the character and becomes Stefani Germelta for a few minutes.
Her relationships with her fans are always paramount (“I love you more and more every year,” she said), and their shared idiosyncraticity is her currency. It doesn’t matter if Gaga is creating her “Art Pop” phase, jazz turns, or “Mayhem.”
