Kroger closes 60 unperforming stores after failing to merge the Albertsons

Five grocery stores are scheduled to close in Oklahoma and Georgia.
Homeland Acquisition Corp. Inc. has confirmed that Oklahoman, part of the USA Today network, will be closing four stores in its hometown of Oklahoma. The Gordon, Georgia store separately confirmed on its Facebook page that it will be closing.
Christine King, the hometown director of marketing and public relations, told Oklahoman that the decision was made to close stores based on “financial performance” and “long-term potential.”
“Closing these stores will allow us to focus on the biggest opportunities to really strengthen our organization by enhancing other communities, growing our communities and focusing our resources on those areas,” King told the newspaper.
The company operates 80 grocery stores in the South using names such as Food World, Piggly Wiggly, Discount Foods, Cashsaver, United Supermarkets, and Homeland.
Stores will be closed on August 16th, according to statements published on their respective Facebook pages. Oklahoma City ABC affiliate Coco reported that 85 people could lose jobs due to the Oklahoma closure.
