Trump confirms to reflect on requests for Ukrainian Patriot System
President Donald Trump discusses Ukraine’s demands for patriot air defense systems and missiles in the war with Russia.
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said the US will send Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine, which will be refunded by the European Union, and will provide critical help to Kiev in combating the onslaught of Russian drone attacks.
Trump had not specified the number of weapons systems offered by the US, but told reporters there has not been agreed to. The US stressed that it would not pay them as it has accumulated new criticisms against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We send them the patriots we desperately need,” Trump told reporters at Andrews’ joint base on July 13th.
Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky is looking for more defensive capabilities to dodge the daily barrage of missile and drone attacks from Russia. After returning from a FIFA Club World Cup match in New Jersey, Trump announced his plans while speaking to reporters ahead of a expected White House meeting with NATO Executive Director Mark Latte.
He said in an interview with NBC News last week that the US will send weapons to NATO, which the military alliance will fund. “We’re not paying any more for weapons,” Trump told NBC at the time.
