Trump Assassin Ryan Rouse allegedly attempting to represent himself in court

Ryan Rouse, the man accused of trying to assassinate President Donald Trump in Florida before the 2024 election, is urging him to represent himself in a September trial where prosecutors say “Rouse wants to turn him into a ‘circus’.”

Federal judge Florida Judge Irene Cannon, the Trump appointee assigned to Louth’s case, considered the request at the July 10 hearing but has not issued a ruling. Rous was arrested on September 15, 2024 after allegedly seen him carry a rifle through a fence at Trump International Golf Club. Trump was playing with the green about the hole behind Rous’s location.

Federal prosecutors initially brought gun charges against Routh, but later raised his case on charges of assassinating a presidential candidate. Cannon has set aside two weeks from September 8th for Routh to go to a ju trial.

At a hearing on July 10th to determine whether Routh’s publicly funded lawyer would be fired from the case, Routh reaffirmed to the cannon that he wanted to represent himself, following an order issued later that day.

Routh, 59, is not a lawyer. He previously worked as a roofer and contractor, and has advocated on social media in Ukraine to help defend Russia’s aggression.

Even if she considers his request, Cannon tells Louth’s lawyers to stick to their current responsibility, including meeting the government’s demands to keep certain evidence out of trial.

If Routh is arguing for himself at his trial, the request may become even more important to the prosecutor.

According to a July 8 motion from prosecutors, “Rous was very clear in his desire to turn this trial into a circus compared to the good nature of the president.” They say that Routh gave them evidence that he wanted the ju judge to hear that it was not related to whether he committed a suspicious crime or not.

“He provided us with the Eagle Scout application from four years ago,” the prosecutor said in their allegations.

Cannon said that if she allows Ruth to represent herself, she would give him the opportunity to have a discussion of his own prosecutor’s allegations.

This was not Canon’s first famous incident. Cannon has dismissed a federal criminal case against Trump over the processing of previously classified documents. The Justice Department appealed the ruling, but later dropped the prosecutors after Trump’s November election victory.
