After two years at the helm, Linda Jaccarino has resigned from Elon Musk’s social media platform X.
Musk tapped Jaccarino to buy the platform in October 2023 and then replaced him as CEO in 2023, shortly after calling on Twitter. He said that while Jaccarino focuses primarily on the business of Twitter, he focuses primarily on product design and new technologies.
In a post on X, Yaccarino called the position a “lifetime opportunity” and said that the platform’s “The Best hasn’t come yet.” She did not provide a reason for her departure.
“I am incredibly proud of the X-Team. The historic business we have achieved together has been nothing but amazing,” Jaccarino said.
Before joining X, Yaccarino chaired NBCuniversal’s Global Advertising and Partnership, overseeing 2,000 employees and $13 billion in annual advertising revenue. Her vast connections with marketers were seen as a potential boost for a company that had a tense relationship with advertisers after Musk’s acquisition.
In late 2023, Musk used expletive against advertisers who left the platform after amplifying anti-Semitist conspiracy theories. By late 2024, investment company Fidelity said the value of X had plummeted nearly 80% since the acquisition of Musk, while Jaccarino said the advertiser boycott had cost the company billions of dollars.
Yaccarino led the company through a series of changes, working towards Musk’s vision of “all apps.” In X, she said the team will work “unbearant” on changes like community notes and bring X money accounts – digital wallets and peer-to-peer payment capabilities – – On the platform. Yaccarino in January said X is partnering with Visa for service and is expected to launch later this year.
In May, Yaccarino said 96% of the company’s top advertisers have returned to the platform over the past year. That same month, Emarketer predicted X would grow advertising revenue for the first time in four years, but only earned about half of what he did in 2021.
“American” Party: Elon Musk announces new political party
Elon Musk announced the “American” party with X. The announcement follows his criticism of President Trump.
In X, Yaccarino said, “I’m very grateful to Musk. “It protected freedom of speech, turned the company around and left me responsible for turning X into every app,” he said.
Her departure comes as billionaires face a backlash from President Donald Trump after announcing sales and challenges of Tesla, the chatbot for Musk’s artificial intelligence startup. The July 8 chatbot praised Adolf Hilter and used anti-Semitic phrases before Xai updated the model.
Earlier this year, Xai acquired X through all share deals.
