Listen to Joey Chestnut Preparation for Hot Dog Meal Contest
Joey Chestnut, the winner of Nathan’s Hot Dog Meal Contest, seriously tells the sport what they need to do to prepare for Independence Day.
Seriously sports
Does Nathan’s Hot Dog Meal Contest have the same as the Indianapolis 500?
If you’re Joey Chestnut, the 16-time Nathan champion will return to the contest on Friday after a one-year ban on contract disputes.
“If you’re an IndyCar racer, you want to be (In the) Indy 500,” Chestnut told USA Today Sports this week. But if you are a car driver, you should be at 500. That’s how I felt on July 4th. If you’re a competitive person, you’re sure to be at the Hot Dog Contest on July 4th. ”
However, last year, Nathan refused to let the fastest cars eat competitively on trucks. There, Chestnut competed at Fort Bliss, an army base in El Paso, Texas, without an ESPN crew airing the sight of Nathan from Coney Island, New York.
Holding a record of the best hot dogs ever consumed during the 2021 10-minute contest, Chestnut aims to be more than a checkered flag. This week it was clear that Chestnut has recovered towards the competition.
“I’m going to let go,” he said.
What did you need to repair?
Chestnut said his absence from Nathan’s contest for almost a year was inevitable. Especially while competing at other events.
“When they told me how they were looking at me on July 4th, I could almost read the facial expressions of people,” he said.
“I told people I was going to go back and try hard, but I couldn’t guarantee that.”
In early June, Chestnut told USA Today Sports that it was investigating other possibilities for July 4th. That included competing against his own Eaters field under the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.
However, on June 16, Chestnut announced that he had signed a three-year contract with Nathan, which will host Nathan’s competition, and the International Federation of Competition Intakes (IFOCE).
Chestnut said the terms of the deal require him to support Nathan’s hot dogs only. So he had to stop supporting hot dogs for impossible foods, but Chestnut said he still supports other impossible food products.
He returns to Nathan as a fan, but he also says it depends on his relationship with Nathan.
“We didn’t know if we could fix it,” he said.
