The Idaho community is shaking a few days after a man ambushed a firefighter who responded with a brush fire, fatally shooting two times and injured a third.

Cootenai County Fire Brigade Chief Frank Harwood and Chief John Morrison of the Caul Darene Fire Station Battalion were killed in the June 29 shooting, authorities said. Dave Tisdal of the Caul Darene Fire Department has recovered from his injuries after two surgeries, according to Tom Grafe, Kaul Darene Fire Department Chief.

“The community has lost two dedicated civil servants,” Gabe Eckert, president of the Coeur D’Alene Firefighters Union, said at a press conference Monday. “These men were dedicated firefighters. They were dedicated to their community. These people were hardworking who loved their families.”

Authorities have identified the suspect who died of apparent suicide as 20-year-old Wes Loffeye. Roily’s body was found after a six-hour manhunt that elicited large-scale law enforcement responses from local, state and federal agencies.
