“Love Island USA” fans call editing errors for Huda, Olandria

“Love Island USA” has been turning his head this season, but not in the way the show’s producers intended.

Eagle Eyed fans enjoy editing on social media recently of the wavy Peacock Dating Competition Show through more than an hour of episodes in the ongoing season 7.

One such clip of the show focuses on Jeremiah Brown, bringing breakfasts of both Iris Kendall and Andreina Santos in the women’s dressing room, treated as a kind of currency in the “Love Island” universe. This episode was cut into a shot of his former partner Huda Mustafa, and glimpses the side with a blank look, hinting that she recorded him moving to another female castmate.

“The editing is crazy because Huda wasn’t even in the room,” @Dollyringz wrote on top of the footage. “I’m convinced that the producers would dislike #huda,” the caption reads.

USA Today reached out to “Love Island” representatives for comment.

Taylor, Olandria, and Clarke Love Triangle will be edited

On X, @PtterCrux has earned over 250,000 views on the 5-second video. In this video, Olandria Carthen takes part in the nighttime challenge and takes a fellow islander sitting in the bleachers, “Which islander do you think is likely to form a relationship to form a relationship?”

The problem is that as the camera is cut into the bleachers, Olandia is seen sitting behind Sierra Ortega and Nick Vancineberghet as the crowd responds with a “aah” drawn out.

In yet another clip, Taylor Williams pulls his former partner Hollanderia for a chat while joining Casa Amor’s Clark Caraway. The editing makes it appear that bikini-covered Clark is reacting to their private conversation, and the show sits completely dressed in an orange kitchen bar stool that was later free in a wide shot of Taylor and Olandia’s conversation.

How Love Island episodes will appear within 24 hours

While some viewers find humor in these “gotcha” moments, others accused producers and editors of having creepy intentions to portray cast members from a specific perspective.

It is common for an unscripted series to show a storyline well from how it happened in real life. Sometimes it’s as harmless as choosing a shot that conveys the emotions better or describes the plot and the characters. In the worst case scenario, the editor is guilty of “Frankenbit.” Cut up a person’s sentence and make them say something else completely, or use words from the context.

As Johnny Garcia in Season 5 explained in Tiktok on June 19, “Does it seem like a lot of people are watching the conversation and getting cut out a bit, or it seems very short.

“So remember. It’s easy to cut things out. It’s easy to show things in a certain way.”

Famously, among other reality shows, such as the Love Island franchise, the use of opaque cups means there is no visible liquid-level continuity error seen in clear glasses.

“Love Island” operates on a light-speed schedule. The episode will air in the evening after the recorded event, following a 2024 interview with the show’s production team.

A team of 30 editors and 20 producers (as of 2024) ensures that the footage is edited in real time throughout the day. The executive producer directs the dialogue and scenes that were strung together to create the episode, while narrator Iain Stirling writes jokes by monitoring rough editing on Zoom. After his narration is weaved into the show, the episode is screened by Peacock’s legal and standards and practice team.

How to watch “Love Island USA”

“Love Island USA” flows to Peacock every day except Wednesdays. Saturday’s episode is a “After Sun” panel-style sit-in starring “Love Island Australia” host Sophie Monk.
