Prosecutors in Sinaloa, northern Mexico, are investigating the discovery of 20 men injured by bullets on a federal highway bridge.
Local media reported that messages were also found hanging over the bridge in Culiacan. The prosecutor’s office told CNN that it had not commented on the message but would investigate it.
Feliciano Castro Melendez, executive director of Sinaloa, called the incident “a disappointing situation” and called it “part of the violence and anxiety that Sinaloa is experiencing.”
Since 2024, Culiacan has been the epicenter of an armed conflict between rival facts of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Two of the most prominent factions are the Rimizer. This is the loyal Roschapitos, the co-founder of the cartel.
The violence in Sinaloa Estorido after Joaquin Guzman Lopez, one of Zambada and El Chapo’s sons, was arrested last year by US authorities in El Paso, Texas.
Officials familiar with the operation at the time told CNN that they organized Zambada’s arrest by inviting him on a plane to investigate the land that Guzman Lopez thought would be in Mexico. Instead, the plane landed in El Paso, Texas, where federal agents arrested both.
Former Mexican security secretary Rosa Icela Rodriguez said Guzman Lopez had reached an agreement with one of his brothers, Ovidio Guzman Lopez.
However, Ovidio’s lawyer told CNN that Rodriguez’s claims were “complete and total forgery.” El Mayo’s lawyers said they “did not surrender or negotiate with the US government,” describing the flight to the US as a violent incentive.
Obigio was extradited to the US in September 2023 and faced drug trafficking charges over his role in the Sinaloa cartel. A few days after his extradition, he pleaded not guilty to a US court charge.
However, in May he reached an agreement to change the plea, according to court documents reviewed by CNN.
Later that month, several of his family members entered the United States as part of the apparent “negotiable or plea deal opportunities offered by the (US) Department of Justice itself.”
El Chapo’s two other sons, Ivan Archived and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, are still all in general. The US accused the cartel of making it a major major drug trafficking operation, and issued a $10 million bounty for information that led to each arrest.
