Paul Simon discards a pair of shows and undergoes surgical procedures for “severe” back pain.

The legendary Simon & Garfunkel Singer (83) shared in an Instagram statement that he had cancelled his performance, set for Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th, at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia.

“Paul is suffering from chronic, severe back pain,” the statement said. “Today, it became out of control and promptly called for caution. Unfortunately, these shows need to be cancelled.

Simon’s announcement states that he will undergo “minor surgical procedures” in the coming days, but he is “full of hope” and that he will complete the tour and make up for the Philadelphia show. Performance refunds are available at the time of purchase.

The “Troubled Bridge Over Water” hitmaker is now in the middle of his quiet festive tour. He completed his farewell tour in 2018, but announced his return in February.

According to a February tour announcement, Simon “targets severe hearing loss,” and chose “intimate venues” for the show that will begin in New Orleans in April and end in Seattle, Washington.

When he appeared in “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in June, the 16-time Grammy winner explained he had previously “not thought he would be able to perform with other musicians again.”

According to his website, Simon is scheduled to perform in Long Beach, California on July 7th. He then plans to do more shows in California during July before heading to Vancouver and Seattle.
