Israeli airstrikes on Saturday targeted Iran’s nuclear research complex in Isfahan, the country’s largest Isfahan, the deputy local governor told the semi-dedicated Fars news agency.
The lieutenant governor said there were no leaks of dangerous materials due to the attack, but residents were advised to avoid areas where rescue and crisis management personnel could do their job.
Several other areas of Isfahan have also been targeted, but no casualties have been reported, the lieutenant governor said.
Iran’s air defenses blocked Israel’s attacks, but some have passed, according to authorities’ accounts.
“The majority of the explosions heard during the attack came from engagements to the air defense system, while others were from enemy attacks,” the Furs report cited officials saying without naming them.
According to the semi-official Mehr news agency, Akbar Salehi, deputy director of security and law enforcement at Governor Isfahan’s office, said Israel had attacked several locations in the state, but the oil refineries were not attacked.
Some contexts: Israel struck the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Centre in the first few days of the conflict, with Israeli Defense Force officials saying the facility suffered serious damage last Saturday. The International Atomic Energy Agency said four buildings at the site were extremely damaged, but a spokesman for the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization said the damage was limited.
