“Grey’s Anatomy” Eric Dane has been diagnosed with ALS
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a degenerative disorder in which the ability to walk slowly, speak, swallow and ultimately breathe slowly leads to slow loss.

Eric Dane shares a “serene” update in his battle with ALS.
In an interview with Diane Sawyer about “Good Morning America,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” star, 52, revealed that her right arm stopped functioning after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
“I have one functional arm,” he said. “My left side is working. My right side is completely unfunctioning.”
The actor added that his left arm would “go,” and estimated he had “a few more months” before “I don’t have my left hand either.” Dane also said he was “worried” about his legs, but he has no problems walking now.
Dane plays Mark Sloan (aka Maximee) in ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” from 2006 to 2012, and currently stars as Calja Cobbs in HBO’s “Euphoria.” He is ready to recreate Cal’s role in the upcoming third season of “Euphoria.”
Dane was the first to share his ALS diagnosis in a statement to People Magazine in April. He said at the time, “I am grateful that I have a loved one as I navigate this next chapter.”
According to Mayo Clinic, ALS is a “neurological disease that affects neurons in the brain and spinal cord,” causing loss of muscle control. Symptoms of the illness include walking, stumbling and falling, weak hands, and impaired speech.
Dane told “GMA” that his initial symptoms were weakening in his right hand, and he “didn’t think of anything” at first until it got worse. He was diagnosed nine months later after meeting multiple hand specialists and neurologists.
Dane also vowed to fight the illness.
“I don’t think this is the end of my story,” he said. “In my mind, I don’t feel this is my end. I’m fighting as much as I can. There’s a lot of stuff out of my control about that.”
But the “Euphoria” star said that just as he lost his father at the age of seven, the “Euphoria” star said that he was “angry” and “angry.”
“At the end of the day, all I want to do is spend time with my family and work a little if possible,” he said.
