Santander Bank plans to close nearly 20 locations this summer after evaluating its existing branches.

The bank confirmed with USA Today that it will close 18 branches in the Northeast, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania between the end of July and the end of August.

A spokesman for Santander Bank said closures will come as banks continue to adapt to the “evolving needs” of their customers.

“Santander Bank continues to improve the branch footprint and retail presence, including introducing new formats and investing in digital capabilities to meet customers and meet evolving needs,” the spokesman said.

According to Santander Trade, a platform that “provides information on international markets for import and export companies,” the bank has over 700 branches, with most (229) located in Massachusetts.
