For those looking for an hourly job, Walmart has revealed that sweet gig.
Outside of the role of manager, cake decorators are the highest paying hourly position in Walmart stores in the US.
The average salary is $19.25 an hour, with over 6,000 cake decorators across the country bringing beauty to the store chain’s beloved pastries.
According to Walmart, the job includes ordering products and using edible cake imaging, in addition to decorating cakes and cupcakes. The company said that when the chain orders and sees peak during graduation season, the entire store will display more than 150,000 cakes a week.
Walmart said it embraces research and creativity by encouraging staff to find trends. The company highlights Melissa Fernandez, a 36-year-old New Jersey decorator. Melissa Fernandez has earned nearly half a million views for Tiktok, which showcases the cake design.
Fernandez said he has made about $24.40 an hour after working at Walmart for 11 years.
“I love baking at home. I love drawing,” Fernandez told the outlet. “I love doing artistic things and I’ve always wanted to be a part of it.”
What do I need for a Walmart Cake Decorator?
To become a cake decorator at a local Walmart, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have six months of experience in fresh production.
The chain said that it is not a requirement, but prefers applicants with previous experience cake decorations.
There are multiple lists of cake decorator locations, from Reno, Nevada and Flagstaff, Arizona to Brooksville, Florida and Latham, New York.
