Trump orders troops in Los Angeles as an agent, protesters clash with immigrants
President Trump has ordered 2,000 National Guard forces in Los Angeles to fight violent protesters against immigration enforcement.
WASHINGTON – As South Dakota governor in February 2024, Christy Noem threatened then-President Joe Biden when Democrats told the Texas National Guard that the federal government should disrupt the federal governor’s anti-immigration efforts.
If he does, Noem warned that Biden is increasing “direct attacks on state rights” and causing a “war” between Washington and the Republican-led state government, she said in a February 6, 2024 interview with Sean Hannity, host of Fox News.
Noem, June 8th – Now President Donald Trump’s Secretary of Homeland Security – cheering Trump for doing the same thing to California’s Democratic governor.
Over the weekend, Trump deployed a National Guard in riot gear in Los Angeles, shutting down a transfer protest against California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s opposition.
Newsom “was doing his job,” Noem said, “our ice agents would not have been injured and attacked while doing their work and enforced immigrants.”
“Under @potus’s leadership, Noem added in a post on X,” Noem added, “it would put the safety of American citizens first, not these criminally illegal aliens defended by sanctuary politicians.” ”
Trump said late Sunday that violent clashes between police and Rockslow protesters had sent the National Guard to California to restore order while angry at offensive efforts to detain undocumented immigrants in the United States.. “We are not going to let this happen to our country.”
Traditionally, it is up to the governor of a particular state to deploy the National Guard. According to an order from the California vice-general, Trump’s deployment of the 2,000-man National Guard force in Los Angeles is expected to last 60 days.
Trump’s Memo June 7th summoned a section of federal law that allowed the president to call security guards and call for service to “fight back US invasions by foreign countries,” or “restrain a rebellion against the authority of the US government,” or “enforce US laws if the president cannot do so with regular forces.”
Newsom voiced his opposition to Trump’s intervention, and on Sunday officially urged the president to withdraw “illegal” deployment of the Los Angeles National Guard.
“This is a serious violation of national sovereignty,” he said.
Faced with the public on Sunday on CBS News, Noem described her reversal by saying, “The governor has proved he has made a bad decision.”
“The president knows he will make bad decisions, which is why he chose to safe this community rather than wait for Governor Newsom to gain some sanity,” Noem said. “And that’s one of the reasons why these National Guard soldiers are federated, and they can use their special skill set to maintain peace.”
Noem was opposed to the deployment of the National Guard when the governor in question was a Republican.
Last year, Noem’s songs were very different.
At the time, Democrat lawmakers and immigration rights activists were lobbying heavily to help Biden federate the Texas National Guard and ease the brewing crisis surrounding the state’s aggressive crackdown on illegal immigration.
Biden’s Department of Homeland Security complained that the razor wire Texas set up on the border with Mexico prevented DHS agents from hindering customs and border protection, immigration and customs enforcement from their jobs.
Activists said the wires are putting lives at risk, especially those trying to cross the US via the rivers at the border where the wires are installed.
The Supreme Court had ruled that the federal government could get through the razor wires. But Greg Abbott, Republican Gov. of Texas, refused to defeat it.
The conflict led to long-term respectableness between Abbott and the Biden administration, with the Texas State Guard occasionally blocking border patrol agents from accessing certain areas of the border.
To settle the standoffs, Democrats and others have ordered Biden to turn federal government into soldiers in the Texas National Guard and not get in the way of federal immigration agents.
In response, Noem not only sent National Guard soldiers from South Dakota to the border to support Abbott’s efforts. She also said she personally went there to stand with him, in case Baden decides to stand against Abbott’s wishes.
On his part, Biden never said he was considering the move.
The president sent the National Guard against the National Guard during civil rights protests in the 1950s and 1960s, when the Southern Governor refused to comply with the separation orders of schools and other public bodies.
“It’s going to be a total disaster, a painstaking move on his side,” Abbott told conservative host Tucker Carlson on his show Uncensored.
In an interview with Hannity, the Fox News host told Noem that she and other Republican governors opposed to “standing on Governor Abbott’s side,” likely causing Biden to step back from doing what “sinking a realistic and real crisis there.”
That’s why she personally went down to Texas, Noem said.
“We defend the Constitution. We defend our rights because we have seen Democrats steal our religious freedom, our freedom of assembly and our freedom of speech over the past few years,” Noem told Hannity. “We can’t even let them take the rights of the state, and our rights in particular protect us.”
