Kiev, June 6 (Reuters) – Russia launched a barrage of violent missiles and drones in the Ukrainian capital early on Friday, killing three people, Ukrainian officials said they were killed as the powerful explosion echoed across the country.

The attack follows a warning from Russian President Vladimir Putin, reported via President Donald Trump, that the Kremlin would fight back after Ukrainian drones destroyed several strategic bomber aircraft in an attack deep in Russia.

The Kyiv’smilitary administration said three people were killed in the attack on Kyiv after the mayor first placed four deaths. The three were the first responders to rushing to one scene of the strike, Home Minister Ihor Klymenko said.

“Overnight, Russia “responded” to the destroyed aircraft…by attacking Ukrainian civilians… A multi-storey building struck. The energy infrastructure has been damaged,” Foreign Minister Andri Sibiha wrote to X.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said 49 people across the country were injured in the overnight attack.

The Air Force said Russia used the 407 drone, one of the largest numbers recorded in one attack. He said 45 cruises and ballistic missiles were also fired.

According to Kyiv’s junta, Kyiv’s metro transport system was disrupted by a damaged Russian strike that raided trucks between stations. The state railroad company said it has diverted several trains due to damage to the city’s railways.

Explosive explosion

Reuters witnesses reported a series of booming explosions powerful enough to rattle windows far from the impact site.

Some Kiev residents searched for shelter in subway stations or underground parking.

In the capital’s Solomiansky district, Russian drones have been slammed into the sides of apartment buildings, leaving behind large holes and burn marks, Reuters photographer on the scene said.

Concrete blocks fall from crushed cars from buildings parked below. Two police investigators were examining what looked like a drone engine.

Early in the evening, Reuters reporters heard the sound of Russian Kamikazedros ringing in the sky, accompanied by the sound of fire from Ukraine’s anti-aircraft fire.

Zelenskiy called for coordinated pressure on Russia.

“If someone is giving the war time to take life without putting pressure on it, it’s accomplice and accountability. We have to act decisively,” he wrote to X.

Like Kiev, Russian forces attacked the industrial facilities and infrastructure of urban and urban cities in the western region, leaving some of them without power, Mayor Serhiy Nadal said.

The local administration said the attacks injured 10 people and recommended that residents stay temporarily due to high concentrations of toxic substances in the atmosphere following the fire.

Five people were also injured in the northwestern city of Rootsk, where the attacks destroyed private property, educational institutions and government buildings, according to Mayor Ihol Polishchuk.

In addition to hitting at least three fuel reservoirs, Ukrainian forces said they launched an overnight preemptive attack at airfields in Engels and Diaguilevo in the Russian region of Saratov and Riazan.

In one of the boldest attacks in the Ukraine-Russian war, Ukrainian spies last weekend used quadrocopter drones hidden in wooden sheds to destroy some of Russian strategic bomber aircraft on the ground.

After a phone conversation with Putin on Wednesday, Trump said the Kremlin was planning an unspecified response to Ukraine’s attacks on Russian air bases.
