Car Recall: Why They Will and What Should You Know
Why does a car recall occur? Here’s what you need to know if your car has an open recall:
According to a notification posted this week by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), General Motors is reminiscent of tens of thousands of Cadillac cars due to video display issues that could increase the risk of crashes.
The Detroit-based automaker reported to NHTSA late last month that video display on some Lyriq models had broken down, resulting in loss of vision on blank screens, speedometers, warning lights and rear cameras, increasing the risk of crashes.
As of May 29, when GM reported the recall to the NHTSA, the automaker had not reported any deaths or injuries related to the issue.
Here are some things you need to know about recalls, including which years will be affected and how to fix the issue.
How many years and models will be affected?
The recall affects 41,376 vehicles on the following models:
- 2023 Cadillac Lyriq
- 2024 Cadillac Lyriq
What should I do if my Cadillac is recalled?
According to the NHTSA recall notification, the video display control module software can be updated for free, either via dealerships or via an Aviation (OTA) software update.
The notification will be mailed to the owner by July 14th.
