Jonathan Joss, the actor best known for his voice role as John Red Corn in “King of the Hill,” was shot dead in Texas. He was 59 years old.
San Antonio police confirmed with USA Today that officers were dispatched to the location of the ongoing shooting on Sunday, June 1, and found Joss near the road upon arrival. Officers “attempted life-saving measures” until EMS arrived and was declared dead.
The suspect, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, was taken into custody and booked for the murder, police said. The investigation is still underway.
Joss provided John Redcorn’s voice for King of the Hill, a hit animated series scheduled to return to revival on Hulu in August. He also played Kenschotte on the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.”
Throughout his career, Joss also appeared in episodes of shows such as “ER,” “Charmed,” and “Friday Night Lights.” Video game voice characters have also appeared, such as “Forever Purge,” “The Magnificent Seven,” “True Grit,” and “Cyberpunk 2077.”
In April, Joss said on his Facebook page that he was injured when he was not invited to the “King of the Hill” event.
“This show has been a part of my life for many years,” he wrote. “The characters, their voices, their stories… They were my home, my pride, something bigger than me.
In a Facebook post in April, Joss added that he is going through “one of the toughest seasons of my life,” and shares the recent burnout of the home he grew up in. “Everything I owned… disappeared,” he said. “My memories, my memorials, and most painfully, my dog. My companions, my family, my comfort in this world has been lost in the flames.
