Donald Trump doubles foreign steel tariffs

President Donald Trump said he had doubled tariffs on foreign steel to 50% when he visited the US steel facility in Pennsylvania on May 30.

After taking office for the second time, Trump has reimposed tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum, recovering 25% collections weakened by exclusions and allocations from numerous countries, as well as thousands of product-specific exclusions.

Trump said higher tariffs would secure more US steel industry.

“No one is going to get around that,” Trump said.

Trump said in Pennsylvania he would strengthen the US steel industry to promote a partnership between US steel and Japanese steel in Japan.
