Why the Florida Panthers are “another animal” compared to hurricanes

The Florida Panthers have shown why they are defending champions and why they are heading for the Stanley Cup final for the third year in a row.
The Panthers were outplayed in the first period, surpassing 2-0 with Sebastian Aho’s goal, and in the second period they quickly turned it to win a 5-3 series on Wednesday night in match 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Panthers killed a penalty and were immediately given a power play. They then hit a deflection from Matthew Tokachuk to reduce the lead to 2-1. Thirty seconds later, Evan Rodriguez turned over with a center pass. One shot later, Anton Randell did the same, with the Panthers scoring three goals with three consecutive shots and a 3-2 lead.
Seth Jarvis concluded the match in the third term, but Panthers captain Alexander Barkov played beautifully to set the Goerard goal for Carter Verhoge. Sam Bennett took the game away by scoring the empty Netter, the 10th playoff goal leading his league.
Florida is looking to become the first NHL team to win the back-to-back championship since the 2020 and 2021 Tampa Bay Lightning.
Florida has knocked out lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and Hurricanes this season. They fell to the Maple Leafs 2-0 before winning in seven games. They won the first three games of the Eastern Conference Finals before clinching in Game 5.
The Panthers will face the winner of the Dallas Stars Edmonton Oilers Series. The Oilers led 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals after a 4-1 victory in Game 4 on Tuesday. They can put it together in Dallas on Thursday night.
The Panthers defeated the Oilers in seven games in the Stanley Cup final last season. And they’re getting deeper this year after adding Brad Merchand and Seth Jones to the trade deadline.

They are waiting for the winner of the Stars Oilers series, where Edmonton (no Zach Hyman who needed surgery) can close out in Dallas on Thursday night. The Panthers’ power play went 0-8 in two games that Sam Reinhart missed. He scored 13 goals and 17 assists in power plays during the regular season, but only two power plays assist this postseason.
The Hurricane will be played again for Game 5 with injured defensive Jalen Chatfield and Sean Walker. This means rookies Scott Moreau and Alexander Nixin will remain in the lineup.
Panthers manager Paul Maurice said Sam Reinhart, Nico Miccola and Aji Greer are expected to return from injuries and play in Game 5. Reinhart was injured in Game 2, while Miccola and Greer were injured in Game 3.
