Angel Reese on Tuesday praised the WNBA for being investigated for alleged abuse They aimed at how the Chicago Sky Player and the league and her team got her back.
The WNBA said it is investigating reports of abuse that were directed towards a second year advance when Chicago lost to Indiana Fever on Saturday.
“Obviously there’s no place for that in this league,” Reese said during media availability on Tuesday. “I think the WNBA, our team and our organization have done a great job supporting me.”
Reese said he has gained support from many people across the league after the incident and during the course of his investigation.
“It’s obviously difficult, but I think I have a great support system. I’m loved by so many people and obviously it’s hard to hear, but my support system is amazing,” the 23-year-old added.
“I have gone through so many different things in my life over the past few years, and I just have support and this love and being part of an organization that really supports me and loves me is something I couldn’t imagine that I am not part of that.”
Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh credited Reese for how she dealt with the process.
“She handled that well, which means it’s about basketball for her, so I think that’s where her heart is. For us, we want to be as locked up as possible to move on to the game plan and Thursday,” Marsh said.
“I mean, Angel is the winner. Angel is a rival and she wants to be there for her teammates. We’re there for her too.”
Marsh added that everyone in the franchise is behind the star’s second-year player.
“No matter what we experience in our personal and professional lives, we want to be there to support each other. This is the environment we want to create. We are the people we want to be as individuals and as teammates.”
The WNBA said it “strongly condemns all forms of racism, hatred and discrimination” following the incident, but the fever said they are supporting the league in the investigation.
Indiana star guard Kate Rinklark issued a similar message after fever practice Monday.
“Our game has no place for that, and society has no place,” Clark, the 2024 Rookie of the Year, told reporters after practice Monday.
“It’s true, we want everyone who comes to our arena, whether it’s a player or a fan, to have a great experience,” Clark added. “I am grateful to the league (investigation) and I am grateful that the Fever organization has been at the forefront of its release from day one.
Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky will play each other three more times during the regular season.
